Somehow....I have managed to SLIGHTLY settle into my new life. By that, of course, I mean that I still do not have a bed and have been sleeping on a lovely air mattress (see below) lent to me by Karly, a cute blonde who works in compliance in our group.
BUT at least I have a spacious apartment with tons of natural light, and at this point, about half my suitcases are unpacked. I'm working on getting some new hangers, but target is kind of far away, and I bought my bicycle TODAY. on craigs list. I named it BUCK, because according to redneckbabynames.com it means male deer (who would have ever guessed?!?!! Also, who knew that Billy bob means constant protector with bright fame...Betty means I pledge to God... and Sue means Lily).
Anyways, my new place is great. I feel like I am living in a hotel. Below are pictures of the common areas, available for the whole building:
(tv room, with couches, shared kitchen, fitness center in the background)
(pool and billiards, one floor below me)
(building entryway with modern art on the left and waterfall on the right).
Though my own unit is more humble than the grand entertainment areas or wine bar that exists on the ground level, it is still pretty fabulous- and with Kristin's help this weekend (when we were not too busy drinking wine), I managed to rack up a couple cute antiques to furnish it with. Here are some pics to indulge you...
(kitchen with hardwood floors and marble countertops- above; kristin sipping wine by the pool- below.)
(entry way...TOO MUCH SPACE IM FREAKED OUT)
(antique bowl that since this picture was taken, i have polished so much that it literally **sparkles**)
(swan book-ends bought on central avenue...where there is also a dairy queen, see below)
inspired by Sheena (http://shanelesheek.blogspot.com/), i purchased a great antique pillar and some cute engraved beauty accessories to go with it. It adds a worn-in feel to this modern upscale pad, providing some needed contrast!
(not-yet-hung mirror and dresser, bought for $60... I cunningly bargain'ed them down...)
Anyways, work and life is busy and even though I have yet to create a STRONG network, I find myself busy every moment. I have laughed a lot, drunken a lot of (*FREE*) wine, signed up for a kickball league which will be playing on Wednesday nights, and met a couple really cool people. So far, so good. And I think me and buck will really enjoy this new city. or at least laugh at it in the meantime.
oh yeah, and just to throw out some fun facts before i say farewell... According to Wikipedia (from here on out, referred to as "GOD OF WISDOM"), Charlotte is the 17th largest city by population (compared to SF, where I grew up, which is only slightly higher, 13th on the list…)
CHEERS TO #17 on the list and have a good weekend!!
Stop just stop. Cant FRIGGIN believe your apartment. I mean it reminds me so much of mine. But i have one question for you: is your air condition as good as mine?? If so, ur lucky. Luckyyyy.
ReplyDelete2. I can't believe you didn't know a male deer was a buck. You need a a trip to Carlinville.
Your place is awesome though can't wait to see as it progresses!
You bargained them down to SIXTY DOLLARS for the dresser AND mirror????? First of all, HOLY BARGAIN, good for you! Second thought, I need a dose of your ballsy-ballerness (desperately). I just talked on the phone with a telemarketer with the THICKEST indian accent you've ever heard about car insurance until my phone died. My parents pay for my car insurance. What's wrong with me?
ReplyDeleteYour apartment is sick and humongous, and I love the natural light. Come visit me in LA, and I'll bring you back down to earth with my humble livin's.
